H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, received the newly appointed Board of Directors of the Association of Banks in Cambodia, led by Mr. Rath Sophoan, Chairman of the Association of Banks in Cambodia, for a courtesy call and working discussion on 28 April 2026 at the National Bank of Cambodia, Wat Phnom Building.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Association of Banks in Cambodia to present the new composition of its Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 mandate, outline the association’s strategic priorities and action plan for the new term, and seek further guidance and recommendations. Discussions focused on key issues related to the development of Cambodia’s banking sector, including the promotion of the use of the riel, strengthening customer protection frameworks, enhancing institutional governance, and reinforcing professional standards and codes of conduct within banking institutions. In addition, the discussion covered measures to expand access to credit for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), support mechanisms for sustainable lending, and responses to emerging challenges in the banking sector.
On this occasion, H.E. Governor welcomed the achievements of the association in recent years and provided a number of recommendations to further enhance the effectiveness of its work. H.E. also emphasized the importance of maintaining close cooperation and coordination with government institutions and relevant authorities, as well as promoting the sustainable development of the banking and financial sector.
