On December 18, 2023, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, and H.E. SAITO Ken , Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, affixed their signature on a Memorandum of Cooperation on “Unified QR Code-Based Payment”.
The signing ceremony unfolded in the distinguished presence of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan, at the Cambodia-Japan Summit held in Tokyo, Japan from December 16 to 18, 2023.
This Memorandum of Cooperation aims to establish a clear framework for collaboration to promote widespread adoption of cross-border payment systems using convenient, secure, and efficient QR Code technology. This cooperation framework will also help increase local currency in circulation and boost tourism between the two countries.
