H.E. Dr. Chea Serey met with H.E. Cherdkiat Atthakor, ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Cambodia

H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, met with H.E. Cherdkiat Atthakor, ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Cambodia, on 4 October 2023 at the National Bank of Cambodia. The meeting mainly focused on the promotion of cooperation between the two countries and the exchange of views on new initiatives to further expand the cooperation aiming to contribute to the development of the banking sector and the economy of both countries. 

H.E. Cherdkiat Atthakor took this occasion to congratulate H.E. Dr. Chea Serey on the role as the governor of the National Bank of Cambodia and highlighted the prominence of H.E. who has been initiating innovative projects to develop financial sector in Cambodia. H.E. Cherdkiat Atthakor also commended the management of the National Bank of Cambodia for the efforts in promoting the use of riel through the introduction of various regulations and promotional campaigns, including the establishment of the Preah Srey Içanavarman Museum, which help to raise the public awareness about the benefits of using riel and the history of the Cambodian economy and currency.

H.E. Dr. Chea Serey stated that the National Bank of Cambodia and the Bank of Thailand have strengthened good cooperation in many areas, such as exchanging visits, sharing experiences on professional work, receiving scholarships for NBC officials to pursue higher education in Thailand, and especially cooperation on interoperable cross-border payment system. In fact, Thailand is the first country with which Cambodia have established interoperable cross-border payment and remittance systems, which have significantly contributed to trade, investment, and tourism in both countries, as well as promoting the use of national currency in the market in line with the goals of the ASEAN Economic Community.
