On Thursday March 2, 2023, Mr. Kimty Kormoly, the First Deputy Director General of Central Banking Directorate of the National Bank of Cambodia, presided over the workshop for regulators on “Developing Derivative Market in Cambodia: A tool for managing risk”. The workshop was co-organized by the National Bank of Cambodia, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia and the IFC from March 2-3, 2023 at Raffles Le Royal Hotel Phnom Penh. The purpose of this workshop is to promote the development of a well-regulated Khmer Riel base derivative market to serve as effective risk management tools in support of Khmer Riel denominated financial products, as part of the larger effort to promote Khmer Riel. The participants include other relevant regulators with the objective of disseminating the benefits of using derivatives as a risk management tool and to provide a platform for regulators to discuss a unified policy respond to develop this market in Cambodia. Regulators who participated in this workshop are from relevant institutions such as the National Bank of Cambodia, Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia, Cambodia Securities Exchange, Insurance Regulator, Social Security Regulator, Real estate Regulator, Non-banking Financial Services Authority, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
