H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Assistant Governor and Director General of the National Bank of Cambodia, led the delegation to the 26th Conference of Central Bank Governor of the French-Speaking Countries

Her Excellency Dr. Chea Serey, Assistant Governor and Director General of Central Banking of the National Bank of Cambodia, led the delegation to the 26th Conference of Central Bank Governors of the French-Speaking Countries on May 25-26, 2022 in Rabat, Morocco. The conference is held every two years to create a forum for discussion, exchange views, and strengthen ties between the leaders of the central banks of the French-speaking countries. The conference was attended by representatives of central banks from 30 countries in Europe, the United States, Africa, and Asia. The 2022’s Topics included the roles of central banks in climate change mitigation, digital currency, and financial technology.

With the development of Cambodia’s FinTech, especially the Bakong payment system, which was awarded by Nikkei as the Superior Products and Services Awards for its innovative technology and contribution to the country's economic and social developments in 2021, the National Bank of Cambodia was invited to present and share experiences about Bakong. H.E. Dr. Chea Serey presented the structure and roles of Bakong in contributing to the development of the payment system, promoting financial inclusion, and supporting economic activities. Her Excellency also participated in discussions with the Governors of the Bank of Mauritius and the Swiss National Bank on issues related to digital currency, financial technology, and electronic assets. Overall, the meeting expressed its appreciation for the Bakong system, and some of the Central Banks of Africa, namely the Central Bank of Tunisia, Mozambique and Madagascar, expressed interests to learn from the National Bank of Cambodia of the experience in establishing the Bakong system.

The conference was successfully concluded, with a friendly and fraternal atmosphere.

In 2024, the National Bank of Belgium will host the 27th Conference of the Central Bank Governors of French-Speaking Countries in Brussels, Belgium.
